According to Lonely Planet, it's not enough to say that Chile is a country of contrast, it's a country of extreme contrasts.
Extreme contrasts is quite an accurat description of Chile. The country consists of 757 000 km2 and has territory in three continents: America, Antarctis and Oceania. The contrasts are obvious specially when it comes to the climate, from the glacier in the south to the deserts in the north. In between there is a wide geographic spectra, with lushious native forest, xx valleys and paradisiac beaches.
Chile consists of 15 regions. The capital, Santiago, was founded in 1541 and is situated in the middle of the country at the foot of the mighty Cordillera and has its own region with its surroundings: Región Metropolitana. Around 5,1 millions of people live there.
If you want to do wine tourism in Chile, there is lots to choose between since wine is produced in four of the countries 15 regions; Coquimbo, Región Metropolitana, Maule and Biobío. All of them are situated in the central parts of Chiles where the climate is perfect for growing grapes. Santiago is a great base to travel from since there are many big vineyards close to the capital.
Along with the growing interest for Chilean wines, the wine tourism has grown and today it's possible to visit most vineyards to get a view of the Chilean wine making process. Many vineyards also offer overnight accomodation since it can be far to the nearest hotel.
