Tonight football fans around the world await the results of totally 33 games. Chile has a ticket to the World Cup within reach, hopefully the nearly sanctified coach Marcelo Bielsa will lead the team to South Africa.
With two games left to play in the qualifiers to the World Cup 2010, Chile has quite a good chance of qualifying, even if La Roja would loose in the game of this evening against Colombia in Medellín. We checked the alternatives and what the consequences will be if Chile wins, equals or looses:
a) Chile wins - the teams qualifies to the World Cup 2010!
b) Chile draws - the team qualifies IF Ecuador or Argentina looses their games, it's enough if one of them looses.
c) Chile looses - the team qualifies IF Argentina and Venezuela looses.
Hopefully La Roja wins tonight and this Wednesday, when Chile plays the last qualifying game against Ecuador, at home in Santiago.
Marcelo Bielsa has gained incredible popularity in Chile and has almost been sanctified for his success with La Roja. At www.prendeleunavela.cl it's possible to light a candle to "San Marcelino" and say a prayer asking for soccer miracles in his name.
Saint or not, we are looking forward to great games and of course victories, vamos, vamos chilenos!
