Viña Maipo visited Stockholm and presented their new range

100606_vmaipo

Viña Maipo, well known in Sweden for their good value wines, visited Stockholm to present their new and exclusive range, created by their Chief Winemaker Max Weinlaub.

The team from Viña Maipo, with Chief Winemaker Max Weinlaub, visited Stockholm during the last week of May to present Gran Devoción (meaning "great devotion") their new range named after the devotion that the people of Maipo and the vineyard put in the winemaking process.

We were invited to the presentation, tasting and dinner with Viña Maipo, in which we gladly participated. Among the lovely wines in the Gran Devoción range we found a new favourite, which we hope to see at Systembolaget in a near future.

The tasting started with a presentation of Viña Maipo, its geographical location and conditions to produce wine. We then tasted wines from the Varietal range; Chardonnay, Carménère and Cabernet Sauvignon, and Reserva; Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Max Weinlaub talked about Syrah, his favourite grape, with a lot of enthusiasm. It is a relatively new grape in Chile, where it has been grown since 1997.
- Its soft tannins, concentrated flavours, fresh aroma and the fact that it gives good results quite fast, makes it an interesting grape to work with, Max told us.

chocolates from
Chokladfabriken.

After the tasting we enjoyed our newly found favourites before dinner. The first course consisted of three dishes of fish; shrimp, pike pearch and char, which made a great match with Gran Devoción Sauvignon Blanc.

The main course consisted of three dishes of lamb, which tasted lovely with Gran Devoción Cabernet Sauvignon. Third and last course, the dessert, consisted of exclusive chocolate from Chokladfabriken, specially made for this ocasion; one of cherries and pepper and one of liquorice toffee with pepper and sea salt. They tasted divine with the wine and put the perfect end to a delicious dinner.

If you'd like to read more about the wines we tasted, we'll write about them in a couple of days.
